Investigating the Correlation of Teachers' and Parents' Views on Students' Talent (Shahab Plan)

In the Shahab National Plan, which is aimed at identifying students' talent in primary schools, the teachers' opinion is the sole criterion for being superiorly talented. While the experience of other countries shows that a variety of criteria and sources, such as parents' opinions, should be considered. Therefore, the purpose of the present study is determining the correlation between teachers' opinion and parent's opinion regarding students' talents; which would help develop information sources and the use of Shahab plan instrument. The research method was descriptive-correlational, and The statistical population of the study was all teachers and parents of the second primary school in Birjand city, which sample of 364 people was selected based on the cluster-type method and Morgan table. The research tool is the standard checklist of the Shahab Plan, which validity and reliability of this checklist have been confirmed in the research of Azadegan (1394). Data analysis was performed at two levels of descriptive statistics and inferential statistics including Pearson correlation. The findings of this study showed that there is a significant correlation between teachers' and parents' perceptions in dynamic-sportive, social, cultural-religious, mathematical, verbal talent and students' general talents, and in other cases, there is no correlation. Parents also gave better scores in all potential areas to their children than teachers. The result of the research shows low agreement between teachers and parents regarding some talented regions, indicates that either the two groups do not share the same understanding of the questions on the "talent checklist", or the characteristics of the current instrument is such that must be reevaluated and revised in order to be useful for both teachers and parents.
